California Roll Sushi

  • Author: Chef KAYA

  • Yield: 1 roll (6–8 pieces) 1x
  • Diet: Low Lactose

Description

The California Roll is a classic sushi favorite featuring creamy avocado, crisp cucumber, and savory imitation crab wrapped in nori with sushi rice on the outside. Easy to make and perfect for beginners, this inside-out roll is flavorful and visually impressive.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 nori sheet
  • ¾ cup prepared sushi rice
  • 2–3 imitation crab sticks, shredded
  • ½ avocado, sliced
  • ¼ cucumber, julienned
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Place the nori on a bamboo mat covered with plastic wrap. Spread sushi rice evenly over the nori and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  2. Flip the nori so the rice faces down. Arrange crab, avocado, and cucumber in a line across the center.
  3. Roll tightly using the mat, applying even pressure.
  4. Slice the roll into 6–8 pieces using a sharp, wet knife for clean cuts.
  5. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce and check labels on crab sticks.
