Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ lbs ground beef (or mix with ground turkey)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely minced
- ½ tsp ground allspice
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp butter (for frying)
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 cups beef or chicken broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Roll into 1-inch meatballs.
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, whisk flour into drippings and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add broth, whisking to prevent lumps.
- Simmer until thickened, then stir in cream. Return meatballs to pan and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or noodles and lingonberry jam.
Notes
For an extra-smooth sauce, strain the gravy before returning the meatballs to the pan.
